Project 4 - A Sense of Place:
The People and Places that make us -
An exploration of Identity and Place

Project Brief:

  • Your challenge over the next 6 weeks is to create a documentary style film of no more than 3 minutes, alongside a series of photoshoots and still imagery.

  • Consider the concepts of Home, Place and Memory within Photography.

  • Documenting places:

  • Consider your surroundings, where you live, work and go to college. You could document the journeys you go on to get to different places, public transport, walking, driving and the conversations you have along the way.

  • Documenting people:

  • Consider your parents and grandparents occupations and where they come from and how their lives intertwine with yours. How has your identity been influenced by the place you live,  the friends you have, the music/podcasts you listen to, the programmes you watch, the social media platforms you use and the experiences you've had?

  • Documenting Local Issues:

  • You can think about this on a local scale and consider what it means to live in Cornwall with it's traditions, urban legends, local history and places of interest or you can look at the bigger picture of what it means to you at the moment to be British.

  • Documenting Global issues:

  • This could be your chance to explore perspectives you are passionate about, Politics, Feminism, Equality and opportunities, Education, Climate Change, Fast Fashion and it's effect on the climate, Erosion, Online shopping and it's effects on local high streets, Lockdown and it's effect on people's mental health, anything that interests you.

  • Ultimately this will become a highly personal response and should explore people, places, events, traditions and the environment, visually, through still and moving image.

You could concentrate on one person and how they tell a specific story about how they live on a day to day basis. This series is called Everyday Humans

ABOUT EVERYDAY HUMANS

We all know them. The creators, the givers, the good folk. The everyday humans that make the world tick over as it should.

Everyday Humans is a short film series inspiring creative film-making through compelling storytelling. No superheroes or famous faces, just everyday humans doing what they do.

Make it about Places

“I wanted to engage in a project that studied people and their attitudes toward climate change,” says Danish filmmaker Nina Holmgren, the director rounding up Survival Season—our special program of films on environmental damage. “Human passivity is the core issue of climate change.”

Make it about a Cause

The film features speeches from climate activists Greta Thunberg and Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, two teenagers celebrated for inspiring worldwide environmental youth movements. “Thunberg and Martinez are important voices on climate change because they rally people together, create awareness and put pressure on those in power,” says Holmgren. “Their voices are important. We can all make the change our planet needs, not just for our generation but for generations to come.

DELIVERABLES - What do I need to produce?:
